Fall 2025 Update
Co-Works Lab is undergoing major restructuring in response to an over 60% reduction in staff and the recent unexpected dissolution of the Strategic Partnerships division that formerly supported the program.
As such, we will not be open to general all-campus access this Fall.
Instead, this semester we are supporting a limited set of courses, pre-approved with school leadership, while working closely with the Provost and ITS to develop a new model that will be sustainable under the current conditions.

Co-Works Research Lab is RISD’s learning and research center for interdisciplinary making. As part of the Strategic Partnerships division, we foster experimentation with emerging and traditional technologies through divisional research initiatives, industry collaborations, and peer instruction through our tutoring program.
How to Get Started (PROGRAMS ARE CLOSED)
Tutoring & Training
Tutors help with software, 3D modeling, coding and more.
Tutors provide training across a wide range of equipment.
Open to all RISD students, staff and faculty.
Schedule appointments through Penji.
Equipment Access
Train and pass a test to gain equipment reservation access.
Testing applies to all RISD students, staff and faculty.
Trained elsewhere? You may take a test without retraining.
Tests must be retaken every school year to maintain access.
Make reservations though Penji.
